Let's Get Ready to Experiment!

After deciding on how students will work in teams, hand out the kits in large, sealed bags. It is a good idea to use large zip-lock bags after opening the original bags. Students will be able to store and not worry about losing the parts to the kits. With each experiment, have a student begin with a brief discussion of the required vocabulary, identify the parts to be used, read over the directions or view the assembly photos through this web page. Be sure to review BEFORE allowing students to work. This will help reduce frustration or lost time due to errors or misplaced parts.

Students must know that full participation and agreement between team members at each step of the experiments will result in success. Begin with experiment one and follow the sequence to experiments until all the experiments have been done. There are plenty of exploratory activities students may do with the magnets. Magnets are fun to play with and learn about, let students explore, but be sure to collect the magnets after students are finished.
